Web Industries showcases new additions to its wire and cable portfolio at IWCS 2024
Laminated shielding tapes, PET core wraps and wider-format spools highlight the new offerings
MARLBOROUGH, Mass., October 4, 2024 – Web Industries Inc. will showcase new additions to its wire and cable portfolio at the 2024 IWCS Cable & Connectivity Industry Forum, October 14 – 17, at Providence, R.I. Web Industries will occupy Booth #233.
Portfolio additions include new laminated shielding tapes, PET core wraps, water-blocking and polyester tapes, and higher-capacity, wider-format spooling capabilities for wire and cable manufacturers in the telecommunications, energy, power and other industries. Applications include data cables and low- and medium-voltage cables, among other industrial end uses.
“With our expanding portfolio of services, Web Industries simplifies the supply chain for wire and cable manufacturers,” said Jim Evans, business development manager, Web Industries. “We are ready to work with them on specialty extrusion and converting of U.S.-made shielding tapes, core wraps, cable fillers, signal isolation tapes and other custom applications.”
Web Industries has operations throughout North America and the EU. It provides quick response to wire and cable customer demand.
New Shielding Tapes and Core Wraps
The new laminated shielding tapes feature a polyester and aluminum foil construction, made to precise tolerances. The PET core wraps can be supplied in formats from 0.5 mil to 5 mil thickness. Both products, along with new water-blocking tapes, expand Web Industries’ converting footprint in the wire and cable industry. The company has a long track record as a supplier of cable filler, specifically its proprietary Superbulk® polypropylene fibrillated cable fillers, as well as separator and signal isolation tapes, and narrow-width flat and fibrillated PP/HDPE-based tapes.
Large-Format Spooling: Labor Savings, Efficiency Gains
In another new development, Web Industries is offering manufacturers higher-capacity, wider-format spools. The company can supply extra-large traverse wound spools of core wraps and other tapes. For example, its latest spooling technology yields spools up to 24 inches wide, holding up to 200,000 linear feet of PET core wrap or shielding tapes. The spools are considered the largest on the market as of this writing. “We have developed very large format spools for the wire and cable world,” said Evans. “They are well over 250 pounds. It’s very new to the market.”
Major benefits of large-format spooling are labor savings and runtime consistency. With larger spools of tape, there is reduced need for material splice changeovers to feed automated production lines. “Given the skilled operator shortage facing U.S. wire and cable manufacturers, they need solutions to give them greater efficiency,” said Evans.
