Web Industries Announces New Multi-Layer Insulation Production Capabilities at 2024 Small Satellite Conference
Greater capacity helps satellite manufacturers complete more missions on time.
MARLBOROUGH, Mass. — August 5, 2024 — Web Industries, the world’s largest producer of multi-layer insulation for spacecraft and a leading composite materials converter and outsource manufacturer serving the North American and European aerospace industries, will introduce new production capabilities and design services at the 38th Annual Small Satellite Conference, Logan, Utah, August 5 – 8.
At the show, Web Industries engineers will be on hand to address visitors’ multi-layer insulation thickness and start-to-finish design and installation challenges. Web Industries will occupy Booth 69.
New production capabilities
Web Industries has added to its aerospace industry-leading MLI production capacity with the installation of four new CNC programmable sewing machines. The production line has the proven capability of producing compressed ceramic MLI blankets up to roughly 11.5 ft. in width and close to an inch thick.
The equipment expansion comes in response to satellite manufacturers’ needs for fast turnaround and precision insulation formatting.
‘Throughout the satellite industry, manufacturers are racing to quote on and complete more missions,” said Web Industries Business Development Manager Lee Smith. “Our start-to-finish design services and increased MLI manufacturing capabilities provide the precision and scale needed to meet these time-sensitive needs.”
Lee adds that Web Industries works seamlessly with customers’ CAD/CAM and CAD/CITM 3D files to ensure that the MLI blankets accurately meet customer specifications.
Product samples on exhibit
High-temperature and ballistic shield blanket samples will be available at the booth for visitors to examine and discuss with Web Industries’ specialists.
The company’s FG-CADC1094-MLB quilted insulation blanket is constructed with a woven Kevlar fabric outer layer that has a high tensile strength and a borosilicate core for flexible, water-repellent, noncombustible thermal and acoustic insulation at high temperatures.
Web Industries’ FG-CADC1095-MLB reflective aramid ballistic shield blanket has an outer layer of aluminized PET that provides low emissivity protection from radiated heat. Its inner core of multi-layer needled aramid guards against micrometeoroid and orbital debris. The blanket’s reinforced 3D stitching conforms to various geometries.
