Web Industries Founder, Independent Director, Chairman Emeritus
The story of Web Industries is the story of company founder Robert Fulton writ large. Our company reflects his Christian values, his vision of how a business can succeed by nurturing its employees, and his belief that “The Essence of Life is Relationships.” His respect for the inherent worth of each individual is at the heart of our company, and it guides the company’s business practices, both internal and external.
Robert Fulton started Web Industries in 1969 with $10,000 borrowed from friends and family. Recognizing that there was unmet regional demand for rolled goods converting in the Boston area, he set out to build a company based on fairness, integrity, and exceeding customer expectations. Guided by his unwavering commitment to these strong values, Web quickly earned a reputation as the company to trust for the precision converting of technically advanced flexible materials. Over four decades later, the company has expanded internationally and serves high-tech markets that didn’t exist forty years ago. It is still guided, however, by the principles of honesty, veracity, and belief in people that Bob established from the beginning.
Bob set out to build a company that would model Christian values in the marketplace and create opportunities for people to reach their full potential. Over the years, these goals would shape the culture and identity of Web Industries, as many employees who were drawn to Web found a work environment consistent with their own personal set of values. His belief that a company’s most important part is its people and that those people deserve to benefit fully from the company that they have built inspired Bob to transfer ownership of Web to its employees. Implementing Web’s Employee Stock Ownership Plan in 1984, the company achieved 100% employee-ownership in 2000.
Although officially retiring in 1991, Bob Fulton remained active within the company, serving as Chairman Emeritus on the Board of Directors until his retirement in August of 2017. He left Web Industries expressing pride that the company he founded over four decades ago continued to reflect his guiding values.
+Carl Ted Lind
Independent Director, Chairman of the Board
An independent management consultant focusing on strategic planning, leadership coaching, and profitable growth strategies, Ted Lind has helped guide Web Industries through three consecutive Strategic Planning cycles which have seen the company’s sales and profitability accelerate dramatically. Prior to launching his consulting business, Mr. Lind spent over 30 years in various manufacturing management and executive positions for Neslab Instruments, The Foxboro Company, Analog Devices, and Texas Instruments. As a consultant, he has worked with Ingersoll Rand, Tyco, and The New England Suppliers Institute. Mr. Lind earned an MBA from Harvard and a BA in Engineering Science from Dartmouth. While at Harvard he coauthored the book A New Approach to Physical Distribution. He served in the US Army and spent two years in Germany as an ordinance officer. Currently, Carl “Ted” Lind is active within his church and serves/has served on the boards of several local charities and hospitals.
A visionary leader with extensive expertise in marketing, business development, program management, strategic customer sales, and complex strategy development in large multi-national corporations, Mrs. Towne has an outstanding record of orchestrating complex programs to effect positive change. Currently, Brenda holds the position of Customer Director for Industrial and Commercial markets for Plexus Corporation. Prior to joining Plexus, she held various senior Sales and Marketing positions in companies such as Celestica, Hewlett Packard, and General Electric. Mrs. Towne is an accomplished entrepreneur and business owner of an organization known as Thrive for Women, which focuses on health and wellness for women, all the while raising awareness for orphanages in third world countries. Brenda earned her MBA from Southern New Hampshire University and dual Bachelor’s degrees in Accounting and Computer Science from the University of Massachusetts. Brenda joined the Web Industries Board of Directors in 2015.
A senior financial executive with extensive CFO experience, Tom has over forty years of diverse business experience in accounting and finance within retail, e-commerce, contract-manufacturing and direct-marketing companies. In 2015, Tom retired as EVP & CFO of SmartPak Equine, where as a key member of senior management, he built and led the HR, IT, and customer service teams along with the accounting and financial functions. Tom is currently on the accounting faculty of the Olin School of Business at Washington University in St Louis and is engaged on a consulting basis as CFO of Boyce Technologies in New York City (#166 on the 2015 Inc. 500 list). Tom serves on the Board of Regents of Concordia University Chicago, chairing their audit and finance committee and as member of the Board of Trustees of Concordia Plan Services, the employee benefit and pension provider of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, serving as chair of their Strategy Committee. A member of Web’s Board of Directors since 2015, Tom is a CPA and holds an MBA from the Olin School of Business at Washington University in St Louis and a BS in Accounting from Southeast Missouri State University.
An independent investor and venture capitalist for over three decades, Stephen Ringlee has been on the Web Industries Board of Directors for over twenty years, during which he has been a strong advocate for Web’s employee-owned culture and focus on great customer relationships. Outside of Web, Mr. Ringlee is the Managing Director of Centesimus Capital and has helped build several IT, life sciences, web commerce, financial and health services and manufacturing companies as well as develop innovative venture capital finance programs for several US states. He is an active board member of several non-profit business and community development groups. Stephen is a CPA, holds a BS in Engineering from UC Berkeley, an MBA from Dartmouth, and a MS in Tax from Bentley University.
Mr. Bastardi has held senior level positions within public, multi-national, as well as, private, emerging growth medical device & diagnostics companies. His experience spans corporate development, strategic planning, marketing, finance, and general management leadership roles for branded products and contract manufacturing businesses. Currently, he is Senior Vice President, Corporate Development & Strategy for Surgical Specialties Corporation. Previously, Mr. Bastardi held various positions with Accriva Diagnostics, Covidien, Flex, and Accellent. He earned an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Business from Georgetown University. Mr. Bastardi joined the Web Industries Board of Directors in 2018.
Management Director, Chief Executive Officer, ESOP Trustee
Donald Romine joined Web Industries in 1973 after attending the Florida Institute of Technology. Over more than 40 years at Web, he has served as Manufacturing Supervisor, Plant Manager, General Manager, VP of Manufacturing, and company President from 1991 – 2015. Since becoming CEO of Web Industries in 1995, one of his main goals has been growing Web’s business while preserving the key company tenets of building healthy relationships, serving customers with excellent performance, and respecting the inherent worth of individuals. Under Mr. Romine’s leadership, Web has transitioned into a 100% employee-owned corporation, empowered people to develop their full potential, and expanded the company’s capabilities to meet the high-tech needs of its business partners.
Management Director, President and Chief Operating Officer
Mark Pihl has extensive experience in executive and operations leadership roles, and his 25+ year career with Web Industries is highlighted by his proven ability to apply world-class standards for technology, systems, quality, and service to build organizations focused on scalable growth, financial health, and delivering industry-leading solutions for customers. Named Web Industries COO in 2010, a member of the Board of Directors in 2012 and President in 2015, Mr. Pihl has been instrumental in realigning company assets and resources to better meet customer and market needs, supporting client-driven international expansion, and positioning all aspects of the company for significant future growth. Mark studied business at Nichols College in Massachusetts, and has held various executive and operations roles for Sony Chemical, USA and FLEXcon, Inc. Mark is a trusted leader who is committed to developing the talent of Web’s employee-owners and establishing a legacy of delivering outstanding solutions for Web’s partners.
Management Director, Vice President of Corporate Development
Mr. Young is a senior executive and general manager with over 30 years of international business experience in the materials, specialty chemicals, medical products, and consumer packaging industries. Over his career, Mr. Young has held various C-level positions for global Fortune 500 companies such as Mondi, Avery Dennison, Sony, and Gillette. Most recently, Kevin was President of Mondi Group, Americas, responsible for four business units in North America and responsible for Mondi’s growth initiatives in South America. Prior to that Kevin was VP/GM of Avery Dennison’s Global Performance Tape Division. Kevin has a passion for nurturing people, building cross-functional teams, and guiding strategic thinking to develop break-through strategies that deliver top line sales and bottom line earnings. A member of Web Industries’ Board of Directors since 2014, he holds an MBA from Babson College and a BA in Economics from Boston College. He is a certified Green Belt in Design for Six Sigma and skilled in applying Enterprise Lean Sigma principles to effect positive change within companies.
Advisory Board Member, Former Chief Financial Officer
Carl Rubin began his career with Web in 1971, working part time during high school and college. After graduating from Bentley College with an accounting degree, Mr. Rubin held several positions in the finance/accounting department of Cambridge Lee Industries. Returning to Web Industries, Carl worked in customer service, outside sales, and served as the General Manager of Web’s Indianapolis facility before being appointed VP of Finance and Chief Financial Officer. He served on Web Industries’ Board of Directors and as the company’s CFO from the mid-1980’s until his retirement in 2014. Carl’s experiences at every level of the company allowed him to develop a deep understanding of Web’s business beyond its financial components. He attributes his long tenure at Web to the strong values embedded in the company’s culture and to the terrific people he was fortunate to work with every day.
